Work History

2018-Current
Co-founded the design lab transition is hosted by E.E.S.A.B. Ecole Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne.
It's conceived to train students and postgraduate students in the field, answering orders from companies with the guidance of professional designers.
It's also a continuing education center offering local companies design course packages blending sustainable design and sociology methodologies.


2013-Current
Design professor at the Ecole Européenne Supérieure d'Art de Bretagne (European Art School of Brittany, France).
Co-founded the research program :"Design en Transition".
Combining science, design and innovative educational practices, it aims at experimenting and producing works that improve our capacity to respond to the challenges represented by

Research into the transition town's communities and culture in Japan, New Zealand, Italy and Brittany.

2011-2012
Sustainable Design professor at the Ecole Europeenne Supérieur d'Art de Bretagne (European Art University of Brittany, France). Coordinated various projects such as : "Common worlds", 8 French schools' projects exhibited at the Milan furniture fair by the V.I.A. .

2009 - Current
XALAIA, Wooden wave riding craft.
From plantation to wave riding, in search for re-connection and resiliency, a design project based on retro-innovation and subtraction.
Xalaia is an attempt to create a sustainable production cycle from afforestation to manufacturing, and to raise environmental awareness through various workshops and lectures. The boards are handmade, 100% environmentally correct, and very long lasting. They are distributed in Kanagawa, Japan, and Brittany, France.

Jan 2008 - Jan 2011

2005 - 2011
Co-founds Okinawa Design Centre in Japan with Ryoko Oshiro. Creates a network and implements strategies to gather, stimulate and promote Okinawan Artists and Designers. Worked for local companies with the financial support of the Okinawan prefecture, specializing in arts and crafts' design. Organised exhibitions to introduce Okinawan manufacturers to Tokyo's department-stores. Also, art directed the magazine "The Okinawan" (Okinawan culture introduced to foreigners).

Jan 1999 - Aug 2000
Reasearch residence at the Villa Kujoyama of Kyoto, Japan, to conduct a Design research project granted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ifjk. Investigated the impact of western cultures on modern Japanese society (Life-styles, interior, graphic design…). Created a collection of experimental design pieces, "HOMEWEAR" wearable furniture, exhibited in various countries.

1999 - Current
Co-founded IXI with Izumi Kohama in Japan. IXI, design collective mainly conducted works for art museums and Galleries in various countries such as the Vitra design museum, the Tokyo opera city gallery and the Hangaram art museum in Seoul.
Designed, produced and distributed original products (Select shop IDEE Tokyo and internet).
Realised various works for the French Ministry of Culture including graphic design for the publication "Design &", and a proposal landscape Design for the World Heritage site "Pont du Gard", Roman Aqueduct in southern France.

1996 - 1999
Worked for Aldo Cibic in Milan, Italy (Architecture and Design company, co-founder of the Memphis Design movement) and was given the chance to explore various fields including product Design, graphic Design, interior Design and research.

In partnership with Izumi Kohama, was also in charge of the selection, import and corporate Design adaptation of Japanese shiatsu massage accessories for the company Fiorucci.

1995 - 1996
Worked for O2France in Paris (Sustainable Design development and consulting) as a graphic and product Designer. Developed tools to help companies evaluating the sustainability of their products' designs.

1994 - 1995
Granted by the French Ministry of culture, in partnership with Olivier Peyricot, to conduct a research into the so-called "Generation X" (The young generation growing in megalopolis at the 21st century's dawn).
The research led to the creation of a range of furniture and an illustrated manual, "individual strategies and furniture". The work was exhibited at the Neotu gallery of Paris.
